April is the month when the clocks have just gone forward and we start to enjoy longer days, warmer temperatures and the urge to transform the neglected back garden into a space fit for a king.
Instead of seeing Spring as a time of garden related chores, why not round up the troops, sling open the patio doors and make the most of your outside space. April 11th is officially National Gardening Week and to help promote the day, and to get the whole family outside and having fun together, here are a few garden activities that you and the kids could enjoy:
Have a Garden Sale
Spring is the perfect time to clean and unclutter your home, so why not round up all those unwanted items and have a garden sale. Before you start, why not knock on all your neighbours doors and invite them to the event. You could even sell cakes and drinks. The kids will learn key skills and might even earn a few pounds along the way.
Garden Party
Once all the unwanted items have been sold, why not turn it into a full on garden party. It’s a great way to meet your neighbours, see your friends and family again and have a lot of fun. A few sandwiches and drinks will be nice to offer your guests, and for those wanting a more formal gathering, why not have an afternoon tea party?
Build a Nature Retreat
If you’d like to spend more quality time with just the kids, why not do something amazing and build something for the wildlife in your garden. Bee house, bird boxes and hedgehog hibernators are all great ideas and you can get lots of tutorials online.
Plant a Tree
Planting a tree in your garden is a great activity you can do with the kids. Your local garden centre has lots of seeds and young saplings to get you started, or you can cheat a little and buy an already established tree in a pot. Make sure they are away from the house, planted correctly and are well watered. Cherry blossom trees burst with colour at this time of year so imagine having your very own!
Now you have a few ideas to get you outside, we hope you make the most of the garden and your time with the kids.
