National Limerick Day: 5 of our Favourite Limericks

National Limerick Day: 5 of our Favourite Limericks

As its National Limerick Day on 12th May, how could we not share with you some of our favourite cheeky limericks? There’s lots to choose from and each year people put on their thinking caps and try and come up with some new ones that are either funny or clever. Here's our Dom and Geri favourites:

The Simple One

There was a young woman named Kite,

Whose speed was much faster than light,

She set out one day,

In a relative way,

And returned on the previous night.

The One for Clever People

The star violinist was bowing;

The quarrelsome oarsmen were rowing.

But how is the sage

To discern from this page:

Was it piglets, or seeds, that were sowing?

The One for Kids

There once was a wonderful star

Who thought she would go very far

Until she fell down

And looked like a clown

She knew she would never go far.

The Creative Wordplay One

A wonderful bird is the pelican;

His beak can hold more than his belican.

He can hold in his beak

Enough food for a week,

Though I’m damned if I know how the helican!

The Just Plain Stupid One

Come along, loud and strong,

And sing the Potato Song!

It goes like so:

Go Tomato!

I may have the words all wrong.
