The Best Jokes In The World: Celebrating International Joke Day

The Best Jokes In The World: Celebrating International Joke Day

Did you know that there has been scientific research undertaken to establish the best jokes in the world? That’s right a combined project between the Oxford University and the London School of Economics in 2015 researched which jokes got the best reaction and a shortlist of ten was established. To get you in the mood for International Joke Day on Friday July 1st, here are two of them:

1) A guy shows up late for work. The boss yells, ‘You should’ve been here at 8.30!’ He replies. ‘Why? What happened at 8.30?’

2) China has a population of a billion people. One billion. That means even if you’re a one in a million kind of guy, there are still a thousand others exactly like you.

So what do you think? Should they be in the top ten best jokes in the world? If you disagree, come and tell us one that is better.

With the country in turmoil over the EU referendum and England’s embarrassing exit from the Euros, it is fair to say we could do with something to laugh about. It might not truly unite us, but International Joke Day on July 1st couldn’t have come along at a better time.

The international language of humour has transcended boundaries for centuries. Jokes are a great way to break down barriers, to put people at ease in awkward situations, to give people an audience and to reduce stress. But most of all, jokes enable us to understand different cultures and different people.

Of course there are many different ways you can tell a joke. There are quick one-liners, long stories, rhymes, physical jokes and visual jokes that you can send on humorous greeting cards. There are jokes that have your audience groaning, jokes that have the room in stitches and others that are too clever by half and 50% of your friends look at you dumbfounded. And let’s be honest, there is the odd joke that quite simply sinks like a stone.

But telling a joke is an art in itself, and at Dom & Geri we want to celebrate International Joke Day by hearing your best gags. Contact us through our social media channels with the hashtag #InternationalJokeDay and let us hear the very you can offer.

There are plenty of other ways you can celebrate too. Why not read a joke book, have a joke-telling party, watch a stand-up comedian’s DVD, better still go out to a gig and see a stand-up set live. You could send greeting cards to your friends containing your favourite jokes, or just spend all day swapping jokes on social media.

In the internet age it has become really easy to swap jokes and memes on social media, and a topical joke on events of the day can be spread around the globe in a matter of minutes. That’s why we want to hear yours on our social media channels for #InternationalJokeDay. So don’t be shy, come and tell us what you think is the best joke in the world.
